Top industry veteran casting director Bill Marinella has been contracted to cast all of the movie's extras, and an open casting call has been scheduled in the Atlanta, GA area. The starring and co-starring roles have been cast in Los Angeles, while additional casting for smaller speaking roles will take place in Georgia.

The studio is fast tracking this project because Jennifer Lawrence has a contract commitment with 20th Century Fox for a sequel to "X-Men: First Class" which starts shooting in January 2013. Filming on "Artemis 2" will begin in August, 2012. "Artemis" took 4-1/2 months to complete principal photography.

Four-time Academy Award nominee Gary Ross announced that he will not be returning to direct Catching Fire, and there is a good chance that a different casting director will also be hired. It is most often the director who chooses the casting director, and three-time Casting Society of America Artios Award winner Debra Zane has cast every film that Gary Ross has directed or produced since 1998 including "Pleasantville", "Seabiscuit", and "The Tale of Despereaux". Zane would likely cast Ross' next project instead of "Catching Fire".
