The day players, extras, photo doubles, and stand-ins will be hired in the Wilmington, North Carolina area as the beginning of filming approaches. The studio is fast tracking this project because Jennifer Lawrence has a contract commitment with 20th Century Fox for a sequel to "X-Men: First Class" which starts shooting in January 2013. Filming on "Artemis 2" will begin in August, 2012. "Artemis" took 4-1/2 months to complete principal photography.

Four-time Academy Award nominee Gary Ross announced that he will not be returning to direct Catching Fire, and there is a good chance that a different casting director will also be hired. It is most often the director who chooses the casting director, and three-time Casting Society of America Artios Award winner Debra Zane has cast every film that Gary Ross has directed or produced since 1998 including "Pleasantville", "Seabiscuit", and "The Tale of Despereaux". Zane would likely cast Ross' next project instead of "Catching Fire".
